Bloglines;feeds

There was so much information to digest about feeds. It took me forever to get through the lesson. I could not watch any of the videos (due to the fact that I have dial-up, I'm sure). The videos would start, stop, start, ... Then I tried to subscribe to numerous feeds (blogs), but was not very successful. I then received a message that Bloglines was having some kind of problem at the time. Technology is wonderful when it works, but when it doesn't, I get frustrated. So I guess I'll have to try later.

The one thing I like about RSS is the fact that you are supposed to be able to visit blogs in one place. Hopefully, I will get this accomplished.

In my library, I could probably use this to relay information to staff (new books, materials, etc., activities taking place in library, book reviews)

In my personal life, I can see the possibility of sharing with my friends and family. However, one could do that by email, too.

I have not attempted to find any other feeds, but when I do, I will add to this blog. I am struggling somewhat at this time.

Twitter

I'm not sure how useful Twitter would be for me as a librarian. Perhaps I could use it to give brief overviews of books---good, bad, a waste of time, etc. Another use might be to list new acquisitions (books, videos, etc.). Personally, I am not interested in using Twitter. I don't have time for it. I barely get time to check my email, as I am not only the librarian, but I also teach 3 math classes.

7 1/2 Habits of Highly Successful Lifelong Learners

For me, the easiest habit is accepting responsibility for my own learning. So often we tend to blame someone else if we don't learn something. Students often blame their teachers if they fail to learn, when they have made no effort to do so. There are so many resources available. I feel one just has to have the desire to learn and access those resources. I love learning, so there is no question in my mind, as to what I will do, when I don't understand something. I tend to do a lot of searching---in books, on the internet, asking my colleagues, etc. until I understand. I often spend a lot of time in this endeavor. However, it is usually worth it.

The hardest habit for me is using technology to my advantage, basically because I get frustrated when it doesn't work properly. Sometimes my computer locks up. Then I have to start all over. Also, I have dial-up at home and sometimes it takes so much time for a page to load that I just give up. I also do not feel comfortable with technology. I need and want to learn about different technologies that can make things easier for me. There are numerous educational videos on the internet that I would like to show my classes, but they will not load. My tech mentor has informed me that he will help me with this next school year. However, his time is limited just like every one else's.
